Reading the essence of Thermal and Statistical Physics. Professor Hsiu-Hau Lin tells you the story of the 80 min. course with his fun cartoons notes.
教科書
Textbook
♠ | Thermal Physics (second edition, 1980) by Kittel and Kroemer. |
Generally, the edition of the textbook should be not too old in order to follow the footsteps of progress in science. After finishing reading some new textbooks, I found that Thermal Physics by Kittel and Kroemer is really classic and suitable for me. Of course it has nothing to do with that the authors teach in UC. And it also absolutely has nothing to do with the fact that Kroemer teaches in wonderful Santa Barbara.
Prerequisite knowledge
♠ | General Physics、Temperature, entropy and heat、Bolzmann distribution、 |
Stationary states (energy levels) in quantum physics |
◆ It doesn’t require much background information to learn Thermal and Statistical Physics, if you didn’t pay much attention in class before, it is your chance to start all over. And it is definitely not an easy course because there are so many new concepts. You need much time to understand the concepts and do the assignments at the back of the textbook, or it has slight chance for you to catch up in class.
